Before they were CCR, they were The Golliwogs. Depending on which website you believe, Tom or John Fogerty is credited with the lead on this one. Great garage tune. Enjoy!

Ok, I checked out the CCR box set at my library last year to hear everything the Golliwogs had to offer and it states in the booklet that they became the Golliwogs in late '64. Two early singles were either Tom or shared but by Brown-Eyed Girl and Fight Fire, John was pretty much doing all the vocals. The Nuggets box set gets it wrong. I really have to go with the CCR box info.
very cool, heard this a dozen times on "the underground garage", then I heard it was the Golliwogs, and I said WOW!!!!, what a awesome garage rock song...I kind of hope its tom!
Well... if you have heard any of the rest of the stuff the Golliwogs put out, this is by far the cream of the crop. Believe me had John not taken the reigns well..you can imagine the rest.
I've heard maybe 4 or 5 Golliwogs songs and found them to be cleverly written and decently performed, if not exactly to my taste. Not any worse than some of the stuff charting in the mid '60's [imo]. But it is this particular song that I'm surprised didn't go anywhere.
Mind you, maybe just knowing that it was CCR or more specifically JF,..learning to stand on his own musical [genius] feet, makes me more tolerant of their early sound.
Well.....you have to consider the source. John is not what you would call nostalgic about a lot of things regarding his past.
John wanted creative freedom and probably the label was the source of the name, who knows for sure.
I imagine that since he is not receiving any royalties for the release of the Golliwog CD recently, he may be tainted by that too. Who can blame him? They (mostly he) got cheated big time.
Consider the source?? I don't think one could get a much better source than Fogerty. Just google "ccr hated golliwogs name" and see how many citations there are.
However, I do understand what you mean. He got very little credit/royalties for being one of the absolutely best singer/guitarist/songwriters to ever strap on a guitar.

And...Thanks for posting this!
