This Ives wide gauge set is most likely from 1926 or 1927. A handsome tan colored 3236 electric outline locomotive leads the set of matching passenger cars that include the 170 Buffet, 171 Parlor, and 172 Observation cars. Although the box was extremely dirty, the trains remained quite clean. Other than light bulbs and oil, no work was needed to make this old set run.
I cannot believe I found this I have the exact trian from my father. The train is in mint condition and has all original parts even the light bulbs. My son and I are putting a train board together and this will be are show piece. Thanks Dave for putting this on youtube I have sent to all my siblings so they can remember my Dad and his train Dave how can I contact you

I work in BPT CT about two blocks from where the Ives factory was. We have an old timer machinist Andy, who often stops by and in grand senior fashion always tells of going to the Ives factory to get his train repaired with his dad and looking up and over the counter at all the trains he could never have!-TM

Nice find! Fun to watch this great old set come out of the box and get right back to running again.
