Arundhati Roy is an Indian novelist. She won the Booker Prize in 1997 for her novel, The God of Small Things, and has also written two screenplays and several collections of essays. In an interview with Times of India published in August 2008, Arundhati Roy expressed her support for the independence of Kashmir from India after massive demonstrations in favor of independence took place—some 500,000 separatists rallied in Srinagar in the Kashmir part of Jammu and Kashmir state of India for independence on 18 August 2008, following the Amarnath land transfer controversy. According to her, the rallies were a sign that Kashmiris desire secession from India.

Indian Army had occupied part of Kashmir and Kashmirs are fighting with Indian forces, while Pakistan and Indian had fought four wars over Kashmir in which almost half of the Kashmir is free now and still Pakistan is fighting at every level for the basic right of self determination of Kashmiri people, Pakistan just want from India to allow Kashmirs to decide where they want to live, as part of India, Kashmir or as separate State, but India does not allow them as if India allow Kashmirs to decide their future than defiantly many others would ask for freedom from India as they are also fighting against Indian govt and forces like in Assam and Ghorkhaland, Nexalite etc, there are almost 67 Independence movements in India for who are fighting for freedom from India.

  • @rasputin7880 out of these Muslims 90% Musilims are not forigners but converted hindu Muslims, so this is their right what ever religion they like and however they want to live, while u also claim that India is democracy, if it is democracy than let them to decide what they want,,, than why u imposing ur decision on some one

  • @rasputin7880 u have to accept it because as per the principle of 1947 division, Kashmiri also have the right to decide that what they want, you can not impose ur decision on some one, even there was Baluchistan in 1947 and via plebiscite they joined Pakistan, so why not it happens at Kashmir, if once they decide than they can not claim for it but atleast once they should be given the basic right of vote

  • @lovenaxalite this is unacceptable.whereever muslims go they overpopulate, make converts & change the demograpy & then will ask for separate nationhood.just tell me what is so special about kashmir that they r given special status by both countries.it is just another state like sindh or rajasthan.the only speciality is that they r a muslim majority state in india.india allowed muslims to have religious freedom & we have paid dearly for it.but not any more.WE WILL NEVER LEAVE KASHMIR

  • @lovenaxalite well i have to admit that ur arguments r right from a neutral point of view.but as an indian i am against further division of my country on religious grounds.u must know that the real india stretched from afghanistan to bengal.first we lost afghanistan to islam, then we lost pakistan & bengladesh & even in remaining india muslims r given religious freedom & their population is now close to 20 crores, whereas the hindus of afghanistan, pakistan & bengladesh were obliterated.

  • @rasputin7880 the Kashmire which under control of Pakistan is not the part of Pakistan till now even, the Pakistan administered kashmir has its own PM, own president, own assemble, own MLAs, own judiciary, own police, we did not share any thing with them except defense, currency and foreign office, rest all they have seperate,we Pakistani can not buy land in Kashmire, can not vote in Kashmire, nor they can vote in Kashmire, so we just want plebiscite in both Kashmirs, Pakistani, Indian and China

  • @rasputin7880 look my brother, we did not ask India to separate Kashmire from them, we just say that India should give the right to Kashmiris to decide what they want, than see what they want, they should be given three options as per the 1947 law of division, they can even join you, and we will be happy if they join you, we will be happy if they vote for separate country Kashmir and we will be happy if they join Pakistan.

  • @lovenaxalite i am not antimuslim.but what muslims did to their hindu neighbours in kashmir is barbarious.no country will remain united purely on religious grounds.u must be aware of that by ur own experience with east bengal.u must also note that separatist movement began in kashmir only in the 1990"s by pak instigation.pak should stop encouraging separatism.u have ur own problems in balochistan.u should not intimidate ur neighbours.about kashmir being holy, havent u heard of amarnath pilgrimage

  • @rasputin7880 Kashmir does not belongs to India not to Pakistan, I am Pakistani but my fair view is that Kashmir belongs to only Kashmiri, so we must give them basic right to decide what they want, and we should respect their decision whatever they decide as seperate country or with India or with Pakistan, if it contain originally more Muslims than you can convert them to Hinduism by your teaching not by force, we have not converted Hindus to Muslims with force, but with our teachings,

  • @rasputin7880 my friend how kashmire is holy land of Hindus?kashmire belongs to Kashmiris, weather they r Muslims or Hindus or Sikhs, all Sikhs, hindus and Muslims living in kashmir are kashmiri, and Pakistan do not want only plebiscite for Muslims, we want plebiscite for all kashmiris means sikhs, Hindus and Muslims, as per the senses 1938 the 70% of kashmir population was Muslim,,, and let them to decide what they all want, i do not want to comment about China because i do not know about it,

  • @lovenaxalite yes u correctly quoted the rule.but kashmir is hindu holy land.kashmiri muslims have made hindu pandits, sikhs & jews migrate from kashmir.they thought by doing so they will be the sole owners of kashmir.it is not so.kashmir doesnot belong to kashmiri.it belongs to india.if muslims want to live there peacefully they can.but if they revolt they would be suppressed with an iron fist,we r not compelling them to live in kashmir.they can migrate to pakistan,BUT WE WONT LEAVE KASHMIR.
