Regarding AS: It's NOT a lubricant - it's thermal paste and it evens out small irregularities on both surfaces and allow maximum contact between the two.
If you use the kind of amount as in this video the paste will not do it's trick as it could when used properly. It's not dangerous, but it will keep your CPU heat up, and CPU fan running on higher RPMs even when the computer is idling.
Put one strip across, then use razor blade to spread the strip THIN & mostly to the middle. Forget corners.

@Thomasdavidallen Yep, I watched one of your videos in which you did that, but you didn't use AS, the paste was white. The AS I used was OLD and STIFF, and very difficult to spread. Hopefully, I won't have to do it again. But if I do, I may try your method. Thanks for the insight!

@MobileMediaProducts There are two methods i use
Getting a plastic bag placing it on my finger then pull the the bag so it's tight and rap the bag around my finger so it stays tight while spreeding the AS I've always done it this way and have never had any problumes
The other way is to placed some AS on the CPU and then just place the Headsink onto the chip and when the CPU warms up it will spreed the past evanly put make sure you place the right amount of AS

@Thomasdavidallen Oh, I know, but really, this AS was OLD. I tried the plastic bag trick. What a mess. Is there a better way? I'm sure. Would like to hear your method!
How did you vacuum out the case? b/c I heard that the vacuum will generate a very high EMI and short circuit any sensitive electronics... you should blow it out w/ compressed air. Never use a vacum of any sort. Also you are using your fingers to put on the silver compound. A huge no no! Oils from your fingers can adversely affect the performance by preventing the micronized silver fill from directly contacting the metal surfaces. e.g. Fingerprints can be as thick as 0.005..

@JumpVector1 my mac works fine. I redid the AS 3 times until I was happy with the temps. While some of your concerns are valid, scientifically, none of this is a huge anything.

omg dude lol way too much paste :P you only really need just enough to fill the air gaps between the two pieces of metal (heat sync and cpu)

@devan12100 thanks for the insight, yes, I realize, and I've redone it using the credit card technique, so all's well. Thanks for commenting.
