2 Oct 1992 (Part 1) - Roger angrily advances on Ross, thinking Ross is taking advantage of Blake. Blake gets between Ross and Roger, but she can't make her father listen. Ross, Blake, and even Holly outside, are shocked to hear the menace in Roger's voice, demanding that Ross not touch Blake. Roger continues to accuse Ross of using Blake to get back at him [Roger], while Ross insists that it has nothing to do with Roger. Ross declares that he cares about Blake more than he's ever cared about anyone, which dismays Holly. Blake is touched by Ross' words, but Roger still believes that Ross is just using her. Holly listens as both Ross and Roger insist Blake leave so they can fight it out. Blake finally admits to Roger that she loves Ross, which Roger has a hard time processing and he ends up slapping Blake. Roger is stunned that he hit his daughter; Holly takes the opportunity to quietly leave; and Ross looks ready to tear Roger apart. Blake tries talking to Roger, but he insists that she choose between him and Ross. Roger silently walks out when Blake chooses to stay with Ross.

  • Holly couldn't really want Blake to suffer Roger's rage, having gotten the worst of it so brutally herself. But she didn't mind standing back as Blake paid dearly for her betrayal either. Funny, these clips don't go into Blake's original motivation too much. She thought Holly destroyed her ties to the Spauldings and wanted to get revenge by stealing Ross.

  • @Oakdalian Holly's hurt and jealousy were fueling her right then, but ITA that she usually tried to shield her daughter from Roger's rage. By these scenes, Blake had fallen in love with Ross (and vice versa) so I think her original motives didn't mean anything to her anymore. Blake no longer wanted to hurt her mother and just be with Ross, but Bloss could have helped their cause with Holly if they didn't act totally innocent around her.

  • I'm not sure if my comment went through...just wanted to say the acting in these clips is AMAZING, it's like watching Broadway actors with Zaslow and Ver Dorn! *I do love Hunt Block/Ben but I agree Bloss belonged together, so no offense taken by me and none meant with my little BW shrine page! The family dynamic with Blake and her parents was so powerful; you can see how torn she was wanting to please Roger and yet her love for Ross was strong. Thanks SO much for sharing these. It means a lot!

  • This shows that great writing and acting can make dysfunctional families fun! LOL Viewers always seem to want nice, happy characters and families. But I'd rather watch good character studies instead of all plot.

I admit I got turned off BW right away because IMO tptb totally dumbed down Ross & Blake and ignored what they meant to each other to build up Ben. Blake had just gotten Ross back after the whole Kevin thing. There was no way she was willing to risk that for a sleaze like Ben.

  • I'm sorry it caused anxiety for Blossies, but someone had to make Hunt Block take off his shirt. :)

  • LOL No anxieties for this Blossie now, since Blake saw the error of her ways. ;-) I was starting to like Ben at the end with Drew and Max.

I also had other anxieties at the time about Ross & India, since Jerry had good chemistry with Mary Kay Adams. Although I didn't really see India as Ross' type.

  • Damn GL was so good back then !!! I gotta say I love Jerry verdorn on one life to live he's very good looking guy but he looks so yummy in that towel I was so distracted by his hot body lol!!!!

  • I'm sorry, but I always felt bad for Roger, except for when he raped Holly.

  • Wow. These are powerhouse performances. THIS is what soaps are supposed to be about- complex characters, love, and family. And it's all character driven; that is such a lost concept now.

  • The mafia bs was over the top for me. This is when GL was GL. May Ellen Wheeler carry the knowledge that she destroyed this show with her for the rest of her life.

  • Guiding Light used to be so good. Michael Zaslow was an amazing actor.

  • lol, I hated the development of Drew as Ben's daughter! It went downhill for me when the mafia came to town.

I LOVED Mary Kay Adams! Other than what I've been able to find online, I can't really remember her story, but she had some wickedly funny dialogue with Beverly McKinsey's Alex! The casting on this show was phenomenal. It was like watching Broadway performers rather than actors learning how to act. Such a treat to have these scenes to watch again - THANK YOU!!!! :)
