Terence McKenna once asked how much would humanity know about the universe if the only method of observation was through a telescope, millions of light years away. In a sense, this statement applies to Gilbert Melendez. Collectively, most of us can agree that Melendez is the number one lightweight on the planet, yet without the opportunity to face any of the top 155lbers in the UFC (or Eddie Alvarez, for that matter), naysayers will always have something to fall back on. We caught up with Cesar Gracie and Gracie Fighter OC to learn more about the potential of Gilbert Melendez signing with the UFC, along with more info on Nick Diaz signing with the organization.

  • Nick's the the better athlete, martial artist and warrior. But I see GSP hugging his way to a win from the top.

Heart says Nick, but my money says GSP.

  • GSP will get exposed for his style sooner or later. Gil will be UFCs LW champion very soon.

  • HAHAHA Dana White got SCARED HOMIE!

  • how the fuck could u already sign a contract in a boxing deal then not follow through ? i dont think they signd' but thank god dana woke the fuck up

  • @voltronforce5000

I like them both and I'd like to see Diaz win because i love his style, i think every fighter should fight with his mentality. But to say he is a better athlete than GSP is just wrong. Nick has great great cardio i know that, but GSP is THE athlete in mma. That is what allows him to stay ontop of them aaaaaaaaalllllll the time :) Nick is the better fighter.

  • @nonphixional1 gil has wrestling, cant even compare him to pettis.

  • @blindbrad11 that doesnt mean gil becomes the champ they all fought different competition and havent met yet.i think gil will be knocked off fast like anthony petis for instance.you dont know til the fights happens and your entitled to your opinion.

  • @blindbrad11 Gil has finished 4 fights in his last 12....I wouldnt say he's a finisher, plus he's fighting weaker competition than Edgar...Maynard is boring at times foresure but thier last fight was pretty exciting...Gil will have his hands full in the UFC although stylewise he fits in well and could be a champ but UFC 155ers is the most stacked division...Edgar, Maynard, Guillard, Guida, Miller, Sherk, Dunham etc could all give Melendez problems..

  • @nonphixional1 gil finishes edgar goes to decision. maynard is boring gil is exciting enough said

  • @blindbrad11 really?i responded just because i would think the opposite.they are interesting matchups. personally i think those two can beat him. there are some other tough up and commers in the hunt that might weed him out. id be suprised if gil does good it's just a gut feeling.also i dont think gsp will be defeated at 170 anytime soon.you could be right though it's mma that's why i enjoy it.

  • @nonphixional1 who do you think could beat Gil in the UFC. I dont see Maynard or Edgar taking him out.

  • Nick is good, definetly better then he was when he left the UFC but the level of competition that he's had in Strikeforce is a joke compared too what GSP has faced in the UFC. It'll probably be a good fight but GSP wins this fight 9 out of 10 times all day.
