@ttiiyy i think what is the sad thing in the case of hong kong is the fact that eventually they will end up in a tighter grip of mainland chinese style government as opposed to the relatively free society they enjoy at present. not to say that an empire is a good thing but i think that hong kong should have been left more and independent city state

@fishdis99 Well, African countries are pretty fucked up after Europeans left. However, I'm not really if China's the same case. Britons forced Beijing to allow Britons to sell opium in China; that ruined the entire Chinese society. I guess Beijing still has some kind of grudge against Britain.
Unlike African countries, China is doing suprisingly well.

@fishdis99 Your comment doesn't apply in Hong Kong's case. I think the British negotiated quite hard for some years with the Chinese to keep Hong Kong under some kind of British administration but when it became apparent that Beijing would not relent they had to give in. Hong Kong people to my knowledge were not thrilled either, to say the least. I believe the emigration out of the colony topped 1 million before 1997.

Look at "Prince" Charles, what a stoned r-tard he is?!
I was born in Hong Kong while it was still under British rule and moved to the States before the Handover. Being a Kid at the time, I can't say if there is a huge difference between Hong Kong under Britain and Hong Kong under China - at least for the day to day.
I can say however, that Hong Kong being able to develop the way it did is thanks to none other than Britain.
Kudos to you UK!

@andyhwang2009 Slaves? Oh sure, while HKers were getting rich under British rule, Millions of Chinese were being murdered by their own leader Mao, in the cultural revolution and Great Leap Forward. a Hukou 户口 system that restricts where people can live- who are the real slaves? You just can't stand the fact that HK became what it is because of rule by a foreign power, and your desperateness on this forum is so obvious.
