Riding The Mountain in Les Diablerets Switzerland

Les Diablerets (pronounced lay dee-AH-blur-ay) is part of a ski region connected to Lake Geneva, famous for her ancient castles, alpine skiing and the Jazz Festival in Montreux. This resort is one of three resorts ski-able on a single lift pass. You can get there by train from Montreux or Vevey, but Les Diablerets is the most popular area overall.

The Les Diablerets Glacier 3000 complex has an added feature of a bucket on rails that runs down the mountain side at breakneck speed. The mountain itself is roughly 10,000 feet at the summit, but of course tourists start a little lower. The number 3000 in the name refers to the height of the mountain in meters.

How To Get There

On the way up you can ride in the cable car from the valley, where the view is absolutely fantastic. The lifts start daily operations at the end of October and runs through to the first week in May. Botta 3000 is the summit restaurant, a great place to eat and a destination in its own right.

There is still more at Les Diablerets because with the extended snowboarding season it is actually a winter and summer resort. There is the boarder-cross course on Isenau, and the unmistakable glacier which is the real deal for serious riders. It is also home to Europe's largest summer park. You have to check out the three halfpipes and the boarder-cross course if you end up there at some point.

Ski Lessons

For families, there is a beginner area at the bottom called "Snowli" and for ski lessons check around in Isenau. The Swiss Ski & Snowboard School instructors hang out there so you are bound to find lessons around there somewhere.

Cross Country Skiing

With miles of groomed trails for cross-country skiing and other winter sports like snowshoeing you can get a great work out. There is also the tubing park, skating rink, a pool, para-gliding, and fitness programs. Last but not least, you absolutely must look into the sledding run at Meilleret. If you want your hair blown back then this is the place to be.
