so, i'm extremely impressed by how you are apparently able to play songs you hear by ear on the fly and just kind of run with it. that's something i would absolutely love to do more than anything. i've been playing piano for some five years but i never took lessons, and just kind of taught myself, and i'd like to think i'm decent at least. do you perhaps have any advice on how to learn to just... play songs, like you can do?

@DiscoArsonist I think it depends on how you are taught, I was taught to play by ear right from the start..it also helps to build up your harmonic language, starting with chords I, IV, V, adding minor ii and vi etc, learning to recognise certain progressions and patterns in music, so start by trying to get simple stuff by ear, and just build on it
