This week, I cover Core's Tomb Raider, one of the best and most influential 3D platformers ever made. Besides debuting one of the greatest game avatars of all time (Lara Croft!), Tomb Raider helped establish the Sony PlayStation as the definitive console of the latter half of the 90s.

  • I can't play Tomb Raider on my PC, I have the game but it's too old for my computer, I've heard of using DOSBox and I installed it and everything, But theres no sound and I don't know how to save it correctly :( Guess i'll have to buy it for PS1.

  • @Bryrida There are some patches and such you can download to help you play it on PC. But, yeah, if you can get it for the PS1, that's the route I'd take.

  • Great review Matt!

Keep up the good work :)

  • Thanks, Zergar!

  • Great review of a great game! I also really loved this game (and especially the first, I gradually lost interest in the later Tomb Raider games -- I think they somehow lost some of the "magic" of the first.) Anyway, keep them coming, I never miss it.

By the way, thanks for the bookmarks! Too bad I had already finished Vintage Games, so I didn't get to use it for that.

  • Yeah, same here. I started on the second one but never finished it. The first one, though, had me riveted from start to finish. Thanks for commenting!

  • Tomb Raider FTW!!

  • Very nice! This brings memories back! In 1994 I was stunned by the beautiful graphics and the atmospheric music.

  • I agree Tomb Raider helped in bringing plat formers to 3D

  • Interghost sent me to your channel saying you did some of the best video reviews and I must admit he is right. Your vids are some of the best I've watched in ages and tomb raider is one of my favourite games of all time. Keep up the good work.

  • Oh man, I hated Tomb Raider. I had the worst time trying to control Lara. Those controls were miserable. Lol.

  • @yesrushdt

Agree totally........I think TR2 shades the first one. Yes, the level you mentioned is great......and epic.....but what were the designers on when they developed the Floating Islands Level. The music, sound effects and overall feel is just weird !

Another thing.....how is that level connected to the previous one....how did she get there ???

  • @huhabab

I would say from experience that to play the game without dying or saving is extremely difficult, if not impossible. Anyway, I'm sure some gaming expert would have a cheat to bypass this problem, so I think it's definitely an urban myth.

  • nvm how big the platforms are :p

i always suck at platform games

  • i also have to say that i had no problems using keyboard, in a matter of fact i couldnt even play tomb raider on the PSX that good after playing it on PC, because i just couldnt get used to the controller - but TR and TR2 are absolutley awesome games, i remember the rumor that you can see lara naked under the shower in the cutscene at the end of TR2, if you manage to play through without saving and dying... erm, never tried that though...

  • i play this game whean i was in 5th grade of primary school but i dont remember how is called is tomb raider what??

  • It sounded like you said "Coors Tomb Raider." lol
