As you walk out on the coast path past Padstow's War Memorial you come across a set of ruins at Gun Point. This video looks at what they were and how they were used in the Second World War.

Music is Bless Em All by Bertha Wilmott (1940), White Cliffs of Dover by Vera Lynn (1942), This is the army Mr Jones by Irving Berlin (1942) and When they sound the last all clear by Donald Peters (1942).

If you have any wartime photographs of Padstow's defences or had a relative who served at Gun Point please leave a comment.

Thanks for the feedback. A fantastic place to walk the dog!

  • What an excellent piece of information, thanks very much for taking the time. I often walk my dog past the old buildings and ruins at gun point and beyond and have often wondered about their history. I guessed that they would have been in use during ww2 but I never realised that their history goes back much further. Thanks again.
