The basics of inductance - how increased inductance creates a heavier filtering effect, and how coil windings and core materials affect the inductance of an inductor.

  • Love your videos, as always. I just have a few quick questions.

I have an old 'borrowed' phone charger in front of me with a bridge rectiIfier, a mess of capacitors, a voltage regulator and what looks like an inductor.

If capacitors and inductors are so similar in function, what's the point in having both? What's the difference?

Thanks, and I look forward to new videos. :-)

  • @Konflict42 Combine them into an LC filter and you get far more filtering than just one or the other.

  • I wish I could come up with a pun about inductors... Then my comment would be awesome.

  • @top2percent Me too.

  • sir, you are an absolute saint, keep up the good work, your getting me through college

  • @top2percent But people would recoil at that.`~- Nehmo

  • Great video ..

  • For accurate inductance measurements at low values, I'd be wary of the one recommended in the comments (LC100). The one I purchased was VERY inaccurate below 30uH, and definitely not within the claimed 1% above 30uH..

  • Your videos are amazing! I don't know why I've been learning electrics at college for the past 2 months, I've learnt so much more on your videos in a couple hours! Makes great revision, thanks man.

  • Could you do a video on inductors used in generators, like the shake torch please? Im really interested in making my projects green so using a Faraday generator (an inductor with a magnet through it) is perfect! You have a way of explaining these things so brilliantly. I love watching them!

  • lol, nanohenry in italian sounds henry the dwarf haha. great videos, thanks for posting!

  • Thank you for posting this series of tutorials! I must say, you have an amazing ability for making the most abstract concepts as clear as a bell for thickheads like me, while still finding a way to make learning entertaining! Who says knowledge has to be boring? Well done, sir!

  • Capacitors smooth out voltage, Inductors smooth out current. This of course is simplified, but the basics are there...

  • love ur video..hope u can make a video about dc boost converter
