Rooting & Hotspot - Optimus V

If you do not want to root your phone you have option of USB tether. see video I posted for Optimus slider USB tether. It works the same on the Optimus v. With LG optimus V android version 2.2.1 it was possible to hotspot your phone with just a simple widget added. With Lg Optimus V android verson 2.2.2 that simplicity is not possible. This root and hotspot should help you out.

If you are having trouble with market version of wireless tether try this beta version of wifi tehter http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/

1. back up contacts calendar 2. Hard reset 3. sign in market get file manager 4. check mark USB debugging 5. check mark allow unknown sources 6. get gingerbreak 1.20 onto SD card 7. install gingerbreak 1.20 8. open gingerbreak choose "root device" (phone will restart its self when done) 9. update superuser 10. install wifi tether (make sure to ALLOW)

trying to root a friends optimus and when i transfer the gingerbreak 1.2 file from winrar to sd, it shows up in several different files. I'm sure i'm overlooking something but if you could point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it. Another thing,..after hard reset, plug into pc via usb and windows cant find driver? does that matter?

@ratchman5000 no just put the apk file strait onto the sd card. don't open it. and it is not a zip file. apk is the instilation file ... same as exe file for windows

Ohhh forgot to mention the best part!! It erased nothing from my phone it did not reformat my sd card, everything that was there before is now except now I have rotted wifi hotspot!! Thank you for this!!

Ok I got the newest LG Optimus V a week ago, and after a lot of looking I was pretty concerned about all the warnings of bricking your phone and all the other things that could happen. I watched this video 4 times, and this seemed the easiest and the one that made the most sense. Phone is rooted. I own a small web hosting company, so I have to be connected all the time. And I owe you a web space so you could make a forum on this stuff!! EXCELLENT!!
