From his 1980 album "Mr Hands"

Herbert Jeffrey "Herbie" Hancock (born April 12, 1940) is a jazz pianist and composer. His music embraces elements of rock and soul while adopting freer stylistic elements from jazz.
As part of Miles Davis's "second great quintet", Hancock helped redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section, and was one of the primary architects of the "post-bop" sound. Later, he was one of the first jazz musicians to embrace synthesizers and funk. Yet for all his restless experimentalism, Hancock's music is often melodic and accessible; he has had many songs "cross over" and achieved success among pop audiences.

Mr. Hands is the thirtieth album by Herbie Hancock. The album features the late Jaco Pastorius on the track "4 A.M.", plus an all synthesizer song "Textures" performed entirely by Hancock. "Shiftless Shuffle" features all five members of The Headhunters quintet that appeared on Hancock's 1973 album Head Hunters, including the quintet's original drummer Harvey Mason. This album was the first album that Hancock, used a computer (the Apple 2) in performing songs. He would continue his relationship with Apple Computer for many more years.

An outright overlooked album when it was released, this would be the last electric outing of "straight" electric jazz from Hancock for some time. He was going to head into more R&B orientated, which would propel Hancock into the stratosphere.

  • Melting away........

  • great song.... lame description-noob

  • One of my favourite from herbie, for me he was far more experimental back in the seventies, this one sounds more musical when jazz meets electronics in a very smooth way but this one is also progressiv until 2'34 when the grooves comes, but the sound stays very spacy all along. Moving jazz harmonies with a resting feel, and nice analog sounds. Cool

  • death to whoever dislikes this lol

  • Futuristic music is so great

  • PURE FANTASY--- I CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT!! THANK YOU SO MUCH HERBIE AND YouTube.

  • Reminds me of "Bubbles" a little bit.

  • Mmm, what an album, and what a start to an album! Don't think any of us can do it justice with a comment.
