Okay, so I know that this could possibly come up in comments, so I'm just going to say this now: I was not talking about Kynaston being bisexual, or his cross-dressing when I combined this song with this film.

The thing that I find the strongest part of the movie Stage Beauty is that Kynaston does not know who he is through most of the film. He defines himself by what he acts on stage, by this vast network of artifice which he has built up.

However, during the course of the film that artifice is stripped away from him, revealing an unstable man. The most powerful thing about the film, to me, is when he is the final scene between Kynaston and Maria:
Maria: "So, who are you now?" (referring to an earlier conversation, about who was, position-wise, the woman and who was the man, but rather pointedly leaving out the gender binaries present earlier)
Kynaston: "I don't know... I don't know..."

Without the artifice, he's not sure who he is, but admitting that he doesn't know who he is at that point is a step to finding "a stronger suit" as it were, to finding who he is beyond the artifice he once relied on. The film ends with Kynaston NOT finding himself yet, but he does seem to be following that path.

In Aida, the character who sings "My Strongest Suit" has her own artifice built up in her wardrobe. This artifice, as well as the importance both of them put on physical appearance, is why I picked the song.

I own nothing.
"My Strongest Suit (Reprise)" belongs to Elton John and Disney
Stage Beauty belongs to Lion's Gate Films and Jeffrey Hatcher

  • Aww, thank you! Glad you like it.

  • *hugs video*

I get to be the first. This is great. Only you could understand what this movie means to me.I only wish it was longer. That is my only complaint.

  • SO glad you like.

What did you think of clip choices? I quite enjoyed my choices for "That a life of great potential is dismissed, inconsequential..." and "So I'll flutter to deceive."
