In early 2011, VA republican Delegate Harvey Morgan, reintroduced the marijuana decriminalization bill. It would've made simple, small possession a ticket-able offense. Current Virginia state law requires serious criminal charges. It's a minimum misdemeanor crime, with arrest possible (likely) jail time & the associated permanent criminal record! That's for *any* amount of marijuana found on one's person / property in VA. This old law STAYS on the books.. Thanks to Delegate Todd Gilbert of Woodstock, VA. He utterly crushed the bill's progress. Todd's campaign & overall political health gets juiced by state & local alcoholic beverage interests, bankers and lawyers (among others) ... Not forgetting of course to "get tough on drugs" in the presence of John Q public. He's a former prosecutor. And in his spare time (while not trying to pass / block laws), a practicing defense attorney. Specializing in what else? Drunk & reckless drivers. All this despite the recent death of a local elderly nun (killed by a boozing driver). When it became hot news, he hit the national Fox TV outlet for loads of juicy airtime & interviews galore. Of course, he was consumed by the tragedy... schmoozing the right wing with immigration reform rhetoric (the DUI perp was an illegal). Great job Todd! Lately, he runs unopposed in his District 15. Towns in or near this district are: Woodstock, Luray New Market, Shenandoah, Rappahannock -- in other words the upper NW part of Northern Virginia. Let him know you're NOT happy!!

sounds to me as if Todd wants people to drink and drive to keep his job in tact ...i personally am disgusted with his efforts to keep this prized medicine away from the people who could most benefit from it .he makes me sick .and i would never vote for such a man for any office in virginia.

The cannabis movement is missing one key point. that is that prohibition is the crime! 4-20-2010 millions of barrels of unneeded fossil fuel was unleashed into the Gulf of Mexico killing n heaven only knows the damage to the environment. It cures Cancer how many have died because of the lies and the racist laws of cannabis prohibition. Trees r being destroyed when we could use the plant for paper,fabric, fuel, medicine and the wars n the hood, Iraq, Afghanistan and Columbia need not be!
