Great Egret shot near bird sanctuary

After a flock of 6 Great Egrets, a rare migrant for Malta, were scared out of Salina bird sanctuary, a poacher shot one of the low flying birds, despite the presence of 3 police vehicles and a BirdLife Malta team

i was working at this park last april 2009, and i was amased with the birds i saw, i even spotted a osprey hunting in the waters for mullet its was a great sight, and i am a former hunter of game birds not protected birds, i also understand your love for the nature as i do, i also wish that the breading season will remain closed as us maltese hunters dont know when to say stop they shoot the lot. if you guys ar interested what i saw that month i can go for a week all at kenndy grove slalini

thank you for posting this. We ourselves where involved in the situation very closely, as we are curently trying to open a park of our own (birdpark Malta). we where very dissapointed when we heard one was shot
