Cant beleive how many people have been messaging me etc to ask about Jayned, so thanks for the concern and stuff, here is a well overdue update for you all :)

Most of you know Iv been having problems with him recently, rearing, bucking, generally anything he could to avoid work. It came on so quick, without any warning or significant event to trigger it off .

I literally went down every route with him, had a physio, dentist, tack checked, and even spoke to the vets , all pretty much came to the same conclusion, that there was no physical problems and that the change in jay was purley behaivoral, and told me to keep working through it, and he should get over it.

They are the experts and so that is what I did, however every time I rode, I felt like I had acheived even less than the day before, untill it got to the point that he would rear at me, before I even attempted to get on.

I was at a total loss with him, every know it all, youtuber, expert was giving me differant advice (none of it that helped). My riding was getting criticised, and everywhere I turned there seemed to be someone waiting to tell me that I had ruined what could have been a good horse.

I was truely gutted, but didnt see a way forward. I spoke to the vets and they told me that they wouldnt have the slightest idea where to start, and that at the end of everything, it could just come back as a behaivoral problem, but at the end of the day, I had to go with my gut instinct. In just over a month Jay had turned from a willing, loveable horse into a total nightmare, and no matter how many people told me that "some horses just turn bad" or that I should "move on, and get rid" I refused to beleive it.

Jay went into the vets for investigation mid september, and X rays of his back showed kissing spines.

In a way I was gutted, of course, but overall I was so glad that we had a cause of the whole situation, because a diagnosis meant that we were one step closer to treatment, and getting the old Jay back.

Jay was given steroid injections to block out the pain, and these were very effective. The clips from the end of the video were taken whilst he was under these, so it shows they worked, however as the vet predicted, they have started to wear off, and so we are now waiting for a date to take him in for an operation where he will have the offending vertebrae removed.

Of course with any operation there is a risk, but fingers crossed, I have been told he should recover well, and in time, be back to the horse he used to be, and capable of doing all the things we were before, including the jumping etc

I made this video because word for word it describes how I feel, I can see a way forward with him now, but still, looking back to the past I feel so guilty, trying to ride him daily, and work through it, when he was trying to tell me it hurt, so in a way, as soppy and stupid as it sounds, this video is an apology to him, and just something I wanted to do

So yeah, think thats just about everything

comments, subs, ratings would be fabby

Lucille :) xx

  • my horse started rearing and nearly went over backwards with me on the road, and it turned out he had kissing spines. His was so severe however that he had to go straight into surgery. Sadly he has now had to be retired as he was just not coping with the work again. Good luck with jay, really lovely willing horse, fingers crossed (Y) xx
