2011 Rio Vista Neighborhood Blitz

Beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, more than 400 City employees will be grouped into
teams and spend the day painting 40 houses, cleaning alleys and picking up
trash in the Rio Vista neighborhood. Homes were chosen after City staff
identified them as in need of painting and clean-up, and determined eligibility of
owners.

In addition to City employees, members of the Angelo State University football
team painted seven homes in the Rio Vista neighborhood on April 16 because they were unable to attend Friday.

Friday's blitz is part of the City's Neighborhood Revitalization Program and gives
employees an opportunity to give back to their community. It is also a proactive
effort to prevent code compliance issues and provide an impetus to spur
neighborhood improvement and economic development.

Friday's event marks the City's third neighborhood blitz since 2009. The other two
focused on Reagan and Fort Concho/Rio Vista neighborhoods.

The blitz is sponsored by the City of San Angelo in partnership with Habitat for
Humanity, which will provide paint and equipment through its Brush with
Kindness program. In addition, the West Texas Organizing Strategy will provide
food and additional painters for the blitz. The staging area for workers is Saint
Mary's Church on the corner of Avenue N and Chadbourne Street.

The neighborhood blitz is financed through Community Development Block Grant
funds and the affordable housing component of the half-cent sales tax. For more
