This is coming from the wrestling section of the Ringeck fencing book.

The pin effectiveness is really dependent on the DLT, the more the opponent lands on his neck/head the better, which makes that a bit tricky to practice safely without prior experience in grappling arts, hence the fairly sedate pace of the throw.

If all goes well the pin can be used to control an opponent on the ground, but due to the nature of medieval fighting environment, it is really designed to give you enough time to stab your opponent without getting to much involved in ground fighting more that it is a proper ground fighting pin.
