Taking the Plunge (ci style)

This is my son wearing his cochlear implant in the water. He is able to hear while playing in the pool with his sister. His processor is sealed in two zip lock bags and held in place by a swim cap. We're not great at getting it all on, and need to find a way to make it look a little "cooler" but as you can see, it works. The processor came out perfectly dry. Not a drop of water touched it.

I wanted to add some notes to this video. One is that we started using an Alosak bag under the swim cap. It makes us feel much more secure than zip lock bags. We also have an Aquapac bag that works just as well but is more bulky. Second, the swim cap in this video is latex. We got a silicone cap (Speedo brand with American flags on the sides, which got comments about Neal being an Olympic swimmer at a hotel pool), and it's much easier to get on and off.

What size of bags do you buy? Do you order them online? Thanks for sharing... my son is going to be SOOOO happy. He has had his CI for 8 years... I can't believe I didn't see this sooner :)

What are Alosak bags? My loss is bilaterally implanted and loves to swim :) and not yet two.

This brings bittersweet emotion. I am over 45 years of age. Grew up with hearing loss and wore hearing aids full time. Also grew up a fish - I loved swimming in the water. I have had an implant for 3 years now. What a joy it is to see this boy delighting in the ability to hear while in the water, something thats never happened to me. Its wonderful to see this happening in my lifetime - thank you for sharing this!
