In 1987, after Joan Rivers had been fired from Fox's "The Late Show," an unknown comic named Arsenio Hall was given a 13-week tryout. He was a hit -- but Fox was already committed to "The Wilton North Report," and Arsenio was already committed to co-starring in Eddie Murphy's "Coming to America." So here, a tearful Arsenio says farewell. (Of course, he'd end up rejoining the late night talk show wars two years later, with his syndicated show.)

  • As a Black woman, I agree that Farrakhan has radical racial beliefs which I do not believe but, he can be on the show just like anyone else. I still remember when people were protesting when Arsenio invited Andrew Dice Clay on his show...ridiculous...dude's an entertainer..I didn't agree with ADC's comedic views BUT again, he has a right to perform anywhere he is invited. Anyway, I really miss Arsenio Hall.

  • Okay...so what's the purpose of having a talk show? Talk show hosts are suppose to be objective. So, in other words..its okay for the Jews to say what they want and believe but when it comes to Farrakhan, he better "shut up"? To blacklist Arsenio Hall for being "objective" and allowing an American citizen to speak is just plain ridiculous. His show was popular because he didn't limit anyone from being a guest on his show. I don't like Farrakhan EITHER but he has rights too.

  • If we stood together we could be powerful too..ah forgoet it, I'll hear some blk dude call his boy the N-word tomorrow right before he gives him a pound,,

  • @c0mm0ns3nc3: You mean he was blacklisted by the Jews. You are right they made him pay for having Farrakhan on his show.

  • Fox did Arsenio, I think he committed the unforgivable sin when he invited Farrakhan on this show. You don;t mess with the Jews in this country, they can make or break you. They broke Arsenio. You were the best Arsenio, miss your show.

  • @idster7 After this show he got his on show, but when he brought Farrakhan on his show, He got blacklisted. So was the end of a great show.

  • The eighties was a great time dispute all the crazy shit that went down in Black America. Shows like Arsenio brighten our days & nights. I wonder if FOX knew they made a big mistake by not giving him a contract or they wanted to let him go? Dispute all that, Paramount gave him a chance & gave us six years of memories. It's a dam shame he's doing pay-a-loan commercials now. Again Arsenio thanks for the memories & to Patchee thanks for posting this.

  • this is insane! same stage, same "aaaaaaaarseniooooo", even the "woof woof woofs"??? here i thought all that was original on his next show. i assume he went from this to coming to america, harlem nights, and then back again.

  • larry king, conan o'brien. jay leno eat your heart out this was real talk show that meant something. and we had a ball every time arsenio came on.

  • why did his show get canceled?
