Barb DiGi is sharing the story that she learned last night about the incident between her Deaf Mom's confrontation with a cop who did not even make any effort to communicate through writing! She requested for an interpreter but was denied. Barb DiGi investigates the rights of a deaf individual according to the law from NAD http://www.nad.org/site/pp.asp?c=foIN... Also she found a cop forum page about their discussion on deaf drivers. Some questioned if deaf drivers should drive and even labeled Ridor as the another "I hate the cop guy." Take a look at this link http://forums.officer.com/forums/show... to see how some of the police officiers perceive deaf drivers. Some of them even questioned if we could drive. See the quote written from a cop: "The other day I made a stop and found both the driver and passenger to be deaf. This surprised me, as I didn't think a deaf person could get a driver's license. But the driver presented a driver's license and it came back as valid."

mom vs cop - cop may win but it is WRONG!!!! officers cannot think they are above the law. they are the law but they have to abide by it as well. honestly, just truthfully being honest to God, mom should have won because this is just so unfair.
Barb... i have a feeling nobody who is as close minded as the ones who have commented negatively towards your vlog can possibly understand the difficulties that many Deaf have had with officers of the law as well as the government. i am not Deaf but i am an interpreter student and many of my teachers, whom are Deaf, have told me many many stories about getting held at gunpoint, and all kinds of crazy stories simply because they prefer not to make an effort to communicate.
That is not the point of my vlog. It is not about whether she sped or not, it is about not having an equal access to communication. When will you get it?
Well i am more of on the officer's side because i think he did his job right. Your mom is just made things difficulties for the officer and act all like a dumb and deaf person, not just being a deaf. I am deaf and i would have notepad and pen in the glove box ready to communicate in case if anything happens. This is where you learn in driving education, when you get pulled over by a cop. Take out the driver license and proof of registration. Mom vs cop - cop win!
First of all, my mom is not dumb. Secondly, not all Deaf persons have pen and pad ready. A police officer should be sensitive when it comes to communicating with the Deaf. Besides, there are stories when Deaf drivers reaching out for a paper and pen in the glove compartment getting beat up or even shot prompting them thinking that they are to get a gun. My mom is entitled to have access to communication and for you to dismiss this is a shame.
True but this officer refused to use it...interpreters are not to be expected immediately on the road, you are right however if you go to part II, the interpreter was not even provided for this Deaf Americans but immigrants so what do you make out of that? Besides this happened a bit more than a year ago not eons so it is not exactly ancient history.
That's so far comment. what wrong with you yourself. they establish the service for call to got an interpreter went to the hospital or court house, or meeting. you talk about outside could not pay for . if cop ask you want to pay for got interpreter?. cop gonna await for interpreter come to see you stop the care . it's gonna for 2 or 3 hours waiting. lol
Just go to Part II and you will understand more...they didnt even provide an interpreter for my mom at court, get it? What is wrong with you? Can you read?
