This time I look at both the new Star Trek movie and Comic Book prequel. And if your a fan, I include some information about Data that you don't want to pass up.
Let me just point out that I do like bad movies, they can be fun. This movie is not what I call fun. This movie is so bad; I can't stop commenting about it. To me it's like inching powder in my shirt. The story has so many coincidences it killed the feeling of reality, the acting was substandard, the villain was shallow and the heroes were jerks and morons. It was the only hero movie I wished the villain would win so there would be no more movies.
Yup, that's what I'd like to see too, a new TNG movie and probably a DS9 movie as well. I'd like to see what happened afterwards. Some how it just isn't the same when reading the books.
@audiowiz Ha ha! Star Trek Lite. I'm gonna have to call it that now. I'm not against having a Trek film with lots of action, however, this film seems to substitute action in place of plot & depth. The way I see it, if you like action, you'll probably love the film, but if you really like Star Trek, you may not.
When he says the film had a "Star Wars-like feel to it," is exactly the reason I wasn't impressed by the film. It seemed too much like a rip-off of Star Wars. I like both Trek & Wars, but I like them for different reasons. One should not feel it has to copy the other. If you liked the new film, I respect your opinion. However, I thought it was a major disappointment on many different grounds.
Of course it felt like Star Wars by design, for better or worse. The crew says they were going for that feel on the DVD commentary too.
Spoilers:
Yeah, just as soon (in the TNG era) as the Federation may possibly be opening up better diplomatic ties to the Romulan Empire, boom some new guy comes along and blows their planet up. So much for respecting established continuity. And the alternate reality is probably worse off with the destruction of Vulcan sure to weaken the Federation greatly.
I thought this was a really good movie

@SeansShowStudios I agree. Nero's motivations seemed weak at best, & the entire Delta Vega sequence was one HUGE coincidence upon another.
