Interesting tidbit: Christopher Reeve was approached for the lead role first. But he turned it down which lead to them casting Richard Gere instead.

When i think about American Gigolo now, i really have to laugh! In 1980 when this movie premiered, i was at the tender age of 17. Nobody knew before then that this film, with such a Controversial theme, would go on to do what it ended up doing; and that is, "Revolutionize" men's fashion, and not just in Hollywood! Richard Gere, who happens to be one of my favorite actors, really hit it out of the park with his "Styling&Profiling" and gave us an inside glimpse of a lifestyle that is very real!
