Our new baby rhino is two and a little bit weeks old in these videos. He spent a couple of hours in the main rhino paddock today (20th May, 2009) and got hailed on when he and his Mum, Moesha, refused to go in. He soon dried out and after a nap in the stalls was up and happily up and about again. He is coming up to 100kg now, and still putting on approximately 2kg per day!

  • does the mum trust humans near her baby?

  • @salvolondon Hi there. They've had another baby rhino since then. Mummy rhinos tend to get upset if humans get close to their baby, which can be dangerous. However, if they're used to people, settled in their pens, and you're quiet and don't do anything surprising, they don't usually mind being touched - behind the scenes tours are available with some animals, but animals don't always cooperate! In the enclosure you'll usually find the mother positions herself between baby and zoo visitors.
