  • @SuperDantheman1974 the body mechanics of the hook is different from the straight.different distance different timing different angle.you cant learn how to defend them if you train ONLY (as shotokan does)against straight punches.an art with no drills against hook punches, low kicks with the shin and take downs but only stupid ippon/gohon kumite against only oi tsuki is crap

  • @acerwk You could say if you only learn to box you will get knocked out from a kick or a knee or elbow, the key thing is not how the punch is thrown, it is all about repetition, a straight punch is always faster than a hook, and if you can get out of the way of a straight you can get out of the way of hook, I have boxing friends and when we spar it is not often they hit me because of the speed of moving in and out, a skill i learned from Karate, I do agree that you should cross train though!!!

  • @SuperDantheman1974 Thanks for the answer.Godan doesnt teach you hook punches(roundhouse)to the face.it gives you only an idea of uppercut (shovel uppercut)nothing more.if someone train only drills against stragiht punches jusat like shotokan is waste of time.you will be attack with overhead or hook and because you never train against them you will not recognized the attack and you will be KO in seconds.sorry its the truth like ti or not

  • @MrKeepnit100 These drills make us react to a situation, it doesn't matter where you step, just make sure in reality that you move out of the way and straight after counter, most people misunderstand these drills, the idea is to drill and drill and drill some more so that instinct makes you react, and muscle memory takes over, hope that helps.

  • @TheRichardHinckley I totaly agree, you can practice any art, but if you dont train hard enough you might as well learn to dance instead, martial arts is a personal journey, and you only become good at something if you put years of time and effort in.

  • @SuperDantheman1974 Many people these days think MMA is better than anything else, In MMA there are lots of things you cant do, these type of techniques are banned for a reason, lots of these techniques are learned in traditional arts and are not trained to people in MMA schools, both MMA & traditional arts both have a place, you are entitled to you opinion, but I think you should keep an open mind, thanks for the debate, maybe we will train together some day, by the way i am not gay lol

  • @SuperDantheman1974 Also I love BJJ and grappling but you dont really want to go to ground on a wet concrete floor in January, sometimes fights do go to ground but its better for you to stay standing if possible, so its good to learn to fight standing and some ground fighting, also if sombody got me in an arm lock on the street i wouldn't reverse it or try to get back to guard as in MMA which is a sport, and my favourite sport by the way, on the street i would tear an ear off or take an eye out.

  • @acerwk Hi i think you either havn't trained in shotokan or havn't trained long enough, Teki Shodan teaches sweeps and leg blocks & Godan teaches hook punch and an uppercut, and these are very basic Kata, i was a bodyguard for many years and have studied tons of amazing techniques for defence, i as you can imagine have been in a lot of scrapes over the years and it has always been Shotokan basics that got me out of trouble not BJJ or any other art,

  • @SuperDantheman1974 really?please show to me in the official syllabus where you find drills against low kicks/hook punches/takedowns?the ippon/gohon kumite are only against oi tsuki/gyaku tsuki.shotokan is shit.a gay art for gay people!

  • @acerwk i am a black belt in Shotokan also instructor of Winghun and i i hahave been training in BJJ for years now, if you think Shotokan is gay tell that to Lyota Machida also have a look at The Art Of War, its on you tube, and you will see people getting knocked out and people loosing teeth, also it does have low kicks hook punches etc, you clearly dont understand the system
