Responding to questions about the early release of results in the European elections, the European Commission on Thursday reiterated that EU member states are obliged to stick to an agreement not to post to these results before all European polls close on Sunday evening.
Dutch cities and towns began posting the results of the European elections on Thursday evening. By 23 hours local time, about 19 percent of the vote had been counted.
The results confirmed exit polls showing a major win for Geert Wilders' rightwing populist PVV party and significant losses for the social-democrat PvdA.
Speaking in this video of course is EU Commission spokesman Johannes Laitenberger, and not Jean-Claude Trichet.
