Suppose you were a journalist in another country living under the rule of a military dictator. If you received threats because of your pro-democracy views and you fled to a remote area of your country, would you qualify for refugee status? Should asylum seekers be kept in detention centres until the authorities have decided whether they are genuine refugees? Should British immigration controls be made stronger, or is the Government in danger of sending people back to countries where they face torture? These are just some of the questions that students discuss on our optional course on Immigration and Refugee Law.
