Professor David Watkins plays Fire Dance from Petite Suite (by David Watkins) on an Aoyama Amphion recital pedal harp. Recorded at Clive Morley Harps in March 2007.

The Amphion provides expanded dynamic range, clear sound articulation and quick response. These three performance features, together with the sleek, modern appearance given by the hexagonal column and minimal decoration, make it a desirable professional instrument.

Internationally known harpist, David Watkins, is the Curator of the Clive Morley Collection of Harp Music and Antique Harps. Thanks to David's expertise and ongoing research, the collection is proving to be a valuable resource to anyone studying the harp.

David Watkins was harpist of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and played for the great artists like Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev. He was a founder member of the New Welsh National Opera Orchestra under James Lockhart and has performed his own harp concerto with the London Philharmonic at the Royal Festival Hall. He is Professor of Harp at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and his lecture recitals are celebrated in many Countries.

  • Aoyamas are good for those sorts of pieces, and so are Salvis. The problem is when you try to play anything else- I prefer Lyon & Healy and Salvi when it comes to less contemporary music.

LOVE that song, too... it's on my "songs to eventually learn" list.

  • he makes the F and C go from natural to sharp

  • I'm a harp convert now having listened to this beautiful and feisty piece of music. Never much liked the instrument before - too many dreamy arpeggios played by vestal virgin types. Mr Watkins gives the harp a much-needed masculine makeover. Fab!

  • 2:54 - that's what it does.

    sharps and flats, i believe.

  • wow Fire Dance has to be one of my favourite pieces. I would love to play this one day :)

Dont you think that the section from 1:53 to 2:04 is so beautiful.

  • What's that things by his feat at 02:24?? What does it do??

  • this clip is a gem! love this piece- so much fun to play and a pleasure to watch being played by the composer.. what a treat!
