@InYourFaceNewYorker The more area that a wave has to propagate, called 'fetch,' the bigger the wave can get. that's why you get such big waves in hawaii, its surrounded by a shit ton of ocean, and when you get a storm a thousand miles away, the wave gains power over that time and space, and then you get these massive bombs once they reach some kind of shelf, reef, etc. the perspective in this video makes the wave look bigger than it is, though it is a monster..
