Chocolate Marble Crumb Cake Recipe Absolutely Delicious
Ingredients
Crumb topping:
2 - 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar
14 tablespoons butter (2 sticks minus 2 tablespoons)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cake:
2 cups white sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
4 eggs
1 - 3/4 cups buttermilk (minus 1/4 cup to melt chocolate)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups semisweet chocolate melted
To melt chocolate:
Place chocolate in glass bowl with 2 tablespoons butter and melt in microwave or double boiler on low heat. Remove when mostly melted and stir in 1/4 cup buttermilk to thin. Cool for 30 minutes.
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly coat with shortening and flour one 14x10 inch cake pan.
Melt chocolate. Set aside.
Combine ingredients for crumb topping. Refrigerate until ready.
Cream shortening sugar and vanilla. Slowly add eggs. Add dry ingredients gradually.
Combine 2 cups of the batter and the melted cooled chocolate, mix well.
Alternate spooning the light and the dark batters. Cut through with a knife to marble.
Break apart crumb topping with hands and spread evenly,
Bake at 350 degrees F for 50 - 55 minutes or until cake tests done.
Serve after 30 minutes with a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
