From time to time during a round of golf you may find yourself in a spot where you don't have a clear shot to the green. Learning to hook your ball out of trouble and advance it closer to the green is a great shot to have in your bag. In this Players Tip Gavin Green from Carroll Valley Golf at Liberty Mountain shows you have to hook the ball out of trouble.

Closing the wrist at impact has nothing to do with hooking the ball. Look at some of Tiger's best hook shots, including the one from this years masters. The ball actually starts out right of his target line, obviously this means he hit the ball with an open face. If you square the face at impact with a hook swing you will start the ball straight and hook it into the tree. Playing the ball back in your stance will allow you to close your stance less and most hook shots require a lower trajectory
