This movie was way ahead of its time. Great special effects, while giving very heart felt performances by the cast. The cinemaphotography is excellent as well. And simply the fact that after all of these years we still love it is a true testamony.

woow..great effect for 1953

Martians? Well, it will be obvious for spaceships that have lamp post lasers. But, the thing is, I wonder if the martians ever died. If anybody knows that, please respond to my comment, and make a youtube video of that, because I'd love to see that on video. Thank you.

Too bad there was no battle scene involving the jet fighters.

the death ray looks kind of like a lamp post. O_O

this was actually pretty cool, even though im born in the 90's
-
i read someplace that the director had done almost all of the special effect work for the machines

Keep in mind this was about 15 years BEFORE the days of captain kirk and the first defensive shields, this was both a new and terrifying concept; sure the aliens were slow, but it didn't matter: they'd get you sooner or later.

The most kick-ass movie ever made. Welles was a true prophet!!!

Soldier#1: It's no good, we can't penetrate their sheild.
Soldier#2: Wait, lets try aiming at the string.
@FirestormPaul That's my favorite aspect of this film, the slow, confident, movements of the machines.

Spielberg's version was good. I mean, come on....it's Steven Spielberg. But it was not as good as the original. As good as the 2005 one is, the 1953 one will always be better.
