The movie the Piano was something of a cult hit and its success was in part due to the influence of the music used in the film.
Michael Nyman who wrote the music stated that he used a traditional Scottish song as the inspiration. There are maybe other versions out there, however here is Kathleen MacInnes singing Duthaich MhicAoidh then Dougie Maclean singing Stormy Winter form his album Tribute then finally Michael Nymans 'The Heart Asks Pleasure First.
I have posted this simply to inform people of how ancient music can be changed and grasped by modern audiences.
I hope you enjoy it
WOW.... I didn't even make that connection... I play this piece on the piano (for some 11 years now) and I'm quite well versed in some sean-nós (Gaeilge mar sin) and well aware of Duthaich Mhic Aoidh... I currently feel like the the thickest fella on the planet... Cheers for putting this up... hilarious... ;o)

@Uaigneach78 Hi - you know its crazy - I am from Scotland and I was aware that it was inspired by an old Scots song - and I must be the thickest guy on the planet - cos I grew up in Dunkeld and know Dougie Maclen and had this CD for years and seen him play it many times - oh and I play piano as well and I didn't make the connection for about 10 years - so there you go - thickos together :) -
