can you use a magic erasure, or is that a bad thing?

You could also use plasti dip paint and then just peal and rub off the paint around the emblem and if you ever decide you dont want the emblem black anymore just peel and rub it off paint is strong will last!! and its its only 6 bucks for the can at home depot i have it on my gt emblem for about 3 months and no problem!

Would have been easier to just paint the existing emblem black instead of all that thats just my opinion though.
