Ivan The Terrible (Ivan Groznyy)

In 1547, Ivan IV archduke of Moscow, crowns himself Tsar of Russia. He's intent on reclaiming lost Russian territory. The film follows his coronation, his wedding, his campaign against the Tartars in Kazan, his illness and recovery, his campaigns in the Baltic and Crimea, self-imposed exile in Alexandrov. All the while, his enemies threaten his success.

@MrWaterlionmonkey The only reason the Romanovs came to power was that they could be traced back to Ivan’s family tree via his first wife. So I still say he deserves respect for being the first czar. Despite the killings, Russia wanted I van, as seen at the end of this movie, because the only choices were dictatorship with Ivan or chaos with the boyars. Without Ivan Russia would have remained in chaos for many years.

And the reason Stalin loved him was because he killed land owners and nobles with firce terror. Which is what Stalin did anyway.

Ivan was a monster. Sure he was the first czar and raised your country to great might, but he then thrust it back into a load of crap. He made it great and then killed a load of his own people and fought to many nations which then took russia apart. It wasnt until long after his death that the Romonovs brought back stability. So yeah, he was a nut and it doesnt matter what his excuse is for his insanity, it doesnt mean he was a hero.

@THE1PAINOF1THE1GAME Military though was not why I initially replied to you. It was because you called Ivan a non-human monster. I know not all people of Russia are the same, but I was taught to frown on communism and have respect for the czars. Ivan was the first official czar and deserves respect just for that, despite the cruelty. What if your father died when you were 3 and your mother at 8 and from the age of 3 to 16, 14 people were killed in your home? You would not be too normal either.

@THE1PAINOF1THE1GAME The Cold War was all about America being afaid of The Soviet Army and vice versa. If anything Russia and America have equal military forces, but considering America has been fighting a war for ten years and Russia has not gives Russia a huge advantage, not to mention Russia's economy is healthier as it has no national debt and therefore can better support militarial advancements if need be.

@tombking7 We can reach anywhere in the world within 18 hours and has the most variety of Special Forces than any other country in the world. We created the stealth bomber in the 1960s which was declassified as soon as the war in the middle east began, can you even come to imagine what we have now? Not only the stealth bomber, but the blackbird, and the jet plane.

@THE1PAINOF1THE1GAME I think it is bold to claim that America has the strongest military force. America has never had a direct war with Russia as well as many other countries. In the modern day, Russia is profiting by America's debts. Also, America has had plenty of cruelty, but it had no purpose, such as Hamilton being killed by Barr in a pistol duel( years earlier Peter the Great banned duels in Russia), or the Japanese concentration camps. My point was that from bad can come good.

@THE1PAINOF1THE1GAME America didn't have much corruption, sure we have politicians who are slime, but we the people of both Russia and America created these nations. All these leaders are figure heads with power. I'm glad to work for my nation, I will die for her, I cannot say the same about Obama.
