@sherrilaine - i prob mentioned Nova Scotia b/c we lived there when i was little, lots of newfs there too, and i have been owned by one, and am looking forward to the next, they are the best:)
@kofixg They are from Newfoundland... hence the name.. not Nova Scotia. Newfoundland is a province in Canada despite the fact no one seems to recognize that it exists.. same with Nunavut and the Yukon.. Irregardless these dogs are the BEST breed out there.. Be owned by one and you will never own another dog! Gentle Giants
they've been rescue dogs for ages - they probably didn't have dog life jackets when they rescued drowning ppl of the coast of Nova Scotia 100 years ago - they also have huge paws, webbed feet, big chests, and loose lips (so they breathe while swimming)...nature's gift of engineering i guess - in Italy now they drop them out of helicopters into the sea to save ppl - you will never drown if you go swimming with a newf (in fact they will try and save you even if you're not drowning:)
Did you know they use these dogs as rescue dogs in the water? They equip them with large dog life jackets and they help tow people to safety, of course there is human aid involved as well..
Great fun. I love to see them swim together. I use a long piece of rope, or a toy tied to a rope, so that they can both hold it. Lovely dogs. You must be proud of them. Thanks for showing this
