My $500 Winter Beater -- The 1991 Honda CRX

I've done it! I've come across a car for $500 that runs and drives and is inspected, something that is hard to come by in climates where most older cars rust out.

This has been a fun little car, even at 223K it still has a lot of pep and is very nimble. It needs work, but nothing major at the present moment. I've got some junkyard parts I'm going to put in it to make sure it'll hold up before I sell it, I don't plan to ask for much more than I paid, hope you enjoy this introduction!

That "transmission grind" you heard happened because reverse doesn't have a synchro. It's the same on all CRX's. Do one of two things: 1. Hold the clutch for at least 5 seconds before throwing it into reverse, or do what everyone else does which is 2: hit the clutch, bump it into a forward gear (I usually use 3rd) to stop shit from moving, and then put it into reverse. You'll never hear that grind again.

Disappointed you didn't mention her name....you MUST ALWAYS name your winter beater, & she'll drive forever. My beater's name is EILEEN...as in "Com-on Eileen".....
