they are lightweight DMUs, irish rail have gone DMUs for quite some time even push pulls are on the way out which sucks, they tried to scrap the enterprise in 2006 and use british high speed trains but the cost of that and upgrading the track to handle 125mph was around 1 billion euro and the minister for transport in belfast wants to keep the enterprise and locos which is good
-
@U91H3D Why are they called "railcars"? Arnt railcars lightweight DMUs?
Ireland should just electrify, electrify evrething. Get Electrostar emus from Bomardier for the Dublin commuter services and get Virgin Pendolino type trains for the routees to Cork and Belfast.

ancient my ass there only 20 years old if thats the case then the darts are banjaxed.
the mark 3s are the best seriously
-
I dont like the air conditioning on these trains, unless the problem is that they are not setting the thermostats right! - the carriages are either too hot or too cold. and 3 hours on the train from sligo because these carriages dont have any opening windows in them you cannot get any fresh air on the journey.
A comprimise might have been if they had air conditioning in the cars but pit a fresh cold air directional vent above the seats like busses/coaches/planes have.

Those mark 3s are ancient get with the times man
-
prefer the mk 3 carriages. these new things are glorified busses.
why spend millions on stupid new railcars when the mark 3s are in great condidtion all they need is a little clean up on the interior but it wouldnt cost as much as the amount of money they spent on railcars

you are right. the mark 3s are over 20 years old now so i guess they wanted to move on.

@U91H3D You should be happy for the new trains; I take the train every day to go in Milan (italy); there trains were built in the 1961

@MexYuhu89 most train enthusiasts prefer the old locomotives pulling carriages though. Of course its a good thing for normal passengers.
