Title: 1x1 - Lecture by Alice Kimm, JFAK Architects

Location: UO-Portland, White Stag Block 142/144

Description: John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects believes that architecture has the power to profoundly transform people's lives, whether it provides an inspiring space, a communal environment, a place to rest one's body or simply a reason to laugh. It also exploits the complexity and collaborative nature of the design process to create buildings that address the many competing desires and conditions behind any work of architecture. Major themes include emotion and meaning, self-knowledge and social space, context, culture and material exploration.
Alice Kimm received a B.A. in Economics from Cornell University in 1986 and an M.Arch. with Commendation from Harvard University in 1990. At Harvard, she served on the Editorial Board of the Harvard Architecture Review and was awarded a 1989 AIA Merit Award. In 1997, Alice spent seven months in Asia as a Fulbright Scholar studying housing policy and design. She currently teaches at the University of Southern California as a visiting associate professor of architecture. http://www.jfak.net/
