For almost 20 years astrophysicists have been trying to recreate the formation of spiral galaxies such as our Milky Way realistically. Now astrophysicists from the University of Zurich present the world's first realistic simulation of the formation of our home galaxy together with astronomers from the University of California at Santa Cruz. The new results were partly calculated on the computer of the Swiss National Supercomputing Center (CSCS) and show, for instance, that there has to be stars on the outer edge of the Milky Way.

  • To further illustrate the incredible realism of this simulation, observe the display at 1:08, then follow it forward through 1:11. There is a very bright object that appears just to the left of center. It traverses to the leftern edge, then arcs sharply back middleward. This would indicate the very first time my Uncle Leo left the house without his keys.

  • Something I find particularly amazing is the revelation that our home galaxy was formed TOGETHER WITH astronomers from UC/SC. This phenomenon is known (by those who know such things) as "Santa Cruz Control", and it explains (amongst other stuff) how He is able to deliver all those presents everywhere in just one night.

  • @norokelt Maybe it's false color.

  • It took:

8 Months.....1 Super Computer.....12,600 Red Bulls....87 tabs of acid.....108,000 Star Trek reruns and one tech actually lost his virginity....unfortunately it was because he never knew he was gay....go figure

  • Yeah right ! The Universe is not that simple.

  • From beginning it rotates clockwise and then other way hmmm..

With logical looking at it and thinking, before all this merging there was something else before ... It's like sucking so what was there in first place? :)

I mean in that actual point place and it's dark it's black it's invisible ;)

    Do you know ? I think I know ..

  • it should spin clockwise no? everything no?

  • @MikeTaylorLives I will thank them. But I stand by what I said about this particular video.

  • looks like shampoo foam in my bath :D

  • congratz... big effort... i think... :)

i just wonder... why to hell its in violet/purple colours ... Milky Way is white nor?... but... maybe... the... Milka... Cow... is the reason... :P
