Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise (王立宇宙軍 オネアミスの翼, Ōritsu Uchūgun - Oneamisu no Tsubasa) is the first feature-length anime movie produced by Gainax in 1987. It is directed by Hiroyuki Yamaga. The movie was a critically acclaimed Gainax classic, but it sold only modestly domestically and overseas[1]. A sequel was intended to be released set 50 years later, but due to lack of funds, Gainax abandoned it part way through production.

Ryuichi Sakamoto scored the film in the same year that he contributed to the famous Oscar-winning score of Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Emperor. Aside from a brief contribution to the soundtrack of Shinji Aramaki's Appleseed, The Wings of Honneamise is the only anime film Sakamoto has scored.

  • We should count ourselves as lucky to have had the opportunity to be introduced to movies like this. I have been watching Anime since I was in elementary school; as an adult I believe my appreciation for different cultures, food, music, and movies has been influenced by people who put their love and energy to create stories like this one.

  • maybe.. if we all stopped to wonder and contemplate on what ladat saw from his ship.. high up there,......

  • @Johnlindsey289 It is just possible one of the greatest FILMS ever made. Animation, live action, anything. The concept of a dramatized documentary about the first man in space... on a planet other then Earth... The story, the design, art direction, acting, score... a completely alien world that reminds us of ours without any direct reference. The film was "made" by and for the natives of another world, but we Earthlings can enjoy it and maybe even learn something about what is is to be human....

  • man this wa sone of my first animes its what got me in to the whole anime genra

  • brings back memories. Love this film.
