A Twist of Fate

It was a cold and windy night. Miley sat in her house, all by herself, lying on her bed, wishing she was dead. After 2 years of relationship, her former boyfriend Liam had dumped her for her former best friend Demi. She had had barely any contact to her old friends the last 2 years, because Liam had forbid her to talk to them.
She stared up to the ceiling for a long time, she didn't know exactly how long cause she had lost her sense for time. Trying to remember the old days with her actual friends, she noticed that the memories seemed blurry, somehow left behind. All she could think of was Liam; how he had told her she wasn't good enough for him, that he needed someone better and that it wasn't her fault. All she had answered was 'Sorry, that I wasn't good enough. I tried my best.'
After a moment, she got up, digging out her box with all the photographs and things, she related good memories with. Miley slowly opened it, sitting down on the floor and emptying out the content of that box on it. She saw a few pictures of her 16th birthday with Selena, Demi and Emily, a stone in shape of a star that she found during her vacation in Maui with Demi, a bracelet her Dad had given her for her 4th birthday and finally the necklace her puppy love Nick had given to her in first grade. She caught herself smiling while letting the chain slowly glide through her fingers over and over again.
Nick and Miley had lost contact after middle school. Miley became popular and Nick had been a band geek. Miley stepped outside the house, breathing in the cold air. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and sat down on the bench, rubbing her arms, trying to warm herself up. Suddenly she felt the urge to get in touch with him. But she couldn't. She knew that. She would be ashamed of her own behavior of the last few years, ignoring him whenever he walked pass her.
A heavy shiver hit her body, not from the cold outside but from the cold she felt now, thinking about how she mistreated him, even though he had always been there for her. Suddenly, Miley noticed something slipping out of the door. She turned her had, just to realize that it was her cat, wanting to find some mid-night snack. Miley smiled to herself; a smile that could only be described as a shadow of happiness, something that wasn't inside her anymore.
She stood up, letting the door open just a crack, so her cat would come in again. Miley herself walked up the stairs to her bathroom, turning on the hot water and looking in the mirror. Again, she lost track of time and when she snapped back, the mirror was versed. Reaching up one hand, she wiped across the mirror, revealing her face again. It now, was red and wet from crying. She turned her face away, not wanting to see more tears rolling down her face. Miley undressed herself, looking at the bruises she had on her arms and her abdomen. Liam had hit her whenever he found out she was trying to contact her old friends. It hurt. A lot. But she always forgave him. He made her dependant to him. And had she let him. Now she finally realized how stupid she had been.
