Jazz Funk - Hip Hop - Greg Osby - StreetJazz

Greg Osby, a saxophone player, composer, educator & performer, originally from St. Louis Missouri, is virtually unknown to most Hip Hop, R&B, Smooth Jazz & Jazz Funk listeners. This is the reason why I put one of his Funk tracks on my channel. This Brother is one the best Jazz saxophonists I have ever heard. Now there are a lot of great Jazz saxophonists in the game but Greg Osby to me is one of the best of the greatest. I call him the "John Coltrane" of Modern Day Jazz. This guy plays some interesting stuff that you won't hear anybody else trying to do. When he attended Howard University's music curriculum which he received a scholarship to attend, this is what he said about it. "I was very resistant to what was being taught at first," he has recalled. "The fundamentals that were being presented to us were primarily Western European theory, choral writing, counterpoint and things like that. I was resistant because I didn't see the value and purposefulness in that. I couldn't see how that information could be applicable to any kind of contemporary situation. By "contemporary" I really meant moneymaking." As you can see he was dissatisfied with the music curriculum there.

Greg Osby has released 18 albums. "Black Book", "Life Styles" & "Man Talk for Moderns" are Jazz Funk Hip Hop, Spoken Word. Every track of these Three (3) albums (CD's) you will enjoy.
