Checked into a WAS net on 40-meters! First successful 40-meter QSO (Vermont To Delaware) with 'ShitePole' wire dipole! Dipole is a 20m cut with 40m extender wires.

    What size is that battery and how long do you find lasts on 5 watts?

    It's a 9AH battery. Should be good for two days of moderate use. The 817 drains about 2A on transmit, so 4.5 hours of TX.

    There are more expensive alternatives, but they are lighter and less prone to temperature changes. My battery cost me $12 Build a charging circuit that auto powers off and you're FB
