  • dalton, the reason the B-36 was never used is that between 1947 and 1954 the Russians knew that if they started anything, the B-36 would finish it.

After 1954 the B-47 took over the main deterrent role, followed by the B-52. The B-36 was retired in late 1958, but its nickname "Peacemaker" was very apt.

  • That's an XB-36. Still the largest bomber ever used in service by anybody. Note huge single tires, lack of dome cockpit. Long bone, but range and specification laid the groundwork for its direct replacement .... the B-52, which will be flying until doomsday, when it will finally drop what it was designed to do.

  • Lindo filme de 1946... Também sabemos lutar. Só que não precisamos porque gostamos de conversar e fazer amigos. Depois de 65 Obama visita o Brasil. !

  • @lsnows My country and its allies have always been great since the days of empire hahaha ... God save the United States and Brazil

  • God bless Brazil AND America. Brazil fought the fascists alongside America in WWII. Broke, poor and far away as it was, Brazil still sent an expeditionary force to help out in the Italian campaign back in 1944-45. Now, THAT's and ally!

  • Pity that B-36s were not put into use during the Dien Bien Phu siege; it might haved saved us a lot of losses and unrest at home.

  • the largest mass-produced aircraft. nice.

  • I've been in one... the cargo bay is like a Gym. You can run laps up and down it's length. Great, overblown plane!

  • B-36 had a price of more than 10 B-29 and B-36 never was used in any war.

  • My Dad was in SAC 1949-52...I was 5 years old and got to go INTO a B-36...down the tunnel....I was hooked...ended up Joining USAF in 1966 and served in Vietnam!
