Author of Blowback, The Sorrows Of Empire and Nemesis: The Last Days Of The American Empire, Chalmers Johnson has literally written the book on the concept of American Hegemony. A former naval officer and consultant of the C.I.A., he now serves as professor Emeritus at UC San Diego. As co-founder and President of the Japan Policy Research Institute, Mr. Johnson also continues to promote public education about Asia's role in the international community.

In this exclusive interview, you will find out why the practice of empire building is, by no means, a thing of the past. As the United States continues to expand its military forces around the globe, the consequences are being suffered by each and every one of us.

  • The U.S. occupies 174 nations & is the chief supplier of nerve gas, cluster bombs & germ-warfare agents to the world. The U.S. promotes totalitarianism internationally & domestically. The C.I.A. meddles in elections, deposes elected leaders, despoils the land and encourages anarchy. The "federal" government of the United States of America is Mankind's #1 threat.

  • I didn't know he was dead. What a loss.

  • @starmanskye Very well put.

  • Vote Ron Paul 2012 to end the FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS' 40 YEAR LONG UNSUCCESSFUL WAR on the people's freedom of choice to consume substances (The end of the War on Drugs).

Ron Paul to BRING HOME the troops.

Ron Paul to audit the fed. Ron Paul to end the "Patriot" Act. Ron Paul to end the private bankers' "Federal" Reserve and the power for THEM to print OUR currency (UNCONSTITUTIONAL).

Ron Paul to end warantless spying on American citizens, like you and I

Ron Paul to restore the people's rights!!!

  • @harrymook What an odd statement.

.5 Billion is 500 million or about the population of the US , Canada, Australia, the UK and parts of western Europe combined. So your "war" will kill everyone in China, India, Mexico, South America, Russia, Central Asia, Malaysia etc etc.

  • @gregboyds -- Self-deluded naive idiotic apologist for corporate-military syndicate racketeering. Contemporary history is far beyond your area of even modest familiarity -- that's why you can cling to your shallow explanation w/o realizing how utterly absurd & inaccurate it is. Infected by the Cold War ideology of super-righteous noble zealism, you're blinded to the inconsistencies, hypocricies, contradictions & flatout BullShit of the popular patriotic fable that disguises fascism as 'liberty'.

  • @gregboyds: Read Mr. Johnson's book "Blowback" or something comparable. And that Europeans live "luxuriously" as you say (which is wildly untrue) because they have "no real military spending" is a GOOD thing. And furthermore, the world isn't that dangerous, especially for US citizens. Out of 350,000,000, what percent have been victims of terrorism? The number is so small it's incalculable. And if we cut our military spending by a third the number would still be next to nothing.

  • That's why Iran is in black list and Terrorists. They sell their oil to Euro. Saddam wanted to do the samething, but they made case against him before he even made the deal...

  • @gregboyds The world is a dangerous unstable place, so why not just leave these unstable places alone so they can implode. There is no reason to invade an unstable country. Let the unstable nations solve their own problems.

  • He said "unintended result". I don't believe that for one second. Perhaps he does, because the ugly truth is hard to come to grips with.

  • @gregboyds Chalmers Johnson was CIA. He was actively involved in the Cold War. This man has earned the right to be on the couch in his old age. You on the other hand are probably one of those arm chair warriors who, unlike Johnson never got your hands dirty. Johnson is not speculating about the state of the world he played an active role in shaping it and he has a right to criticize it and he is doing so here legitimately. You know nothing about how the Middle East conflict arose. He does!
