This song was released in 1967, became a Top Five hit. It was performed by Davie Allan and the Arrows. It was used as the theme song for a cult biker movie THE WILD ANGELS, starring Peter Fonda, Nancy Sinatra, Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd. This tune helped popularize the use of the fuzz tone or fuzz box for electric guitars. It is also known as "distortion". It inspired its use in psychedelic music and heavy metal music. It is also "punk" in its concept, a very simple motif, but very catchy, it worms its way into your subconscious. Davie Allan was hired to come up with a biker sound track and he wanted a raw, primitive, raunchy sort of sound and fuzz was perfect. Melodically this tune is in the key of A. The first riff revolved around a power A chord, the root and fifth, or A and E. Then it repeats with a D chord behind it. The little bridge is worked around an E chord. Interestingly, with the A riff, a rhythm guitar or keyboards in this example, uses a power A chord, then a power C, power D and power E chord. Then the D riff used a power D, F, G and A chord. The little bridge doesn't have to have a rhythm guitar behind it, but you can use a power E, G, G flat, F behind the notes, which are the root notes of these chords.
I am a serious amateur songwriter and near ready performer in Arlington, Virginia, USA, looking to hook up with lyric writers and folks willing to perform some of my tunes.
