Highlights of one of the best challenge cup finals from recent times.

Several excellent tries from both sides, if only it was still played like this today.

  • Wow, literally haven't seen those highlights since 1985 - looks like the English equivalent of the '89 Grand Final down here.

  • Brett Kenny is one of the all time greats! What a class act!

  • Great stuff! And good to see both teams in traditional colours rather than the horrible jazzy things they wear these days.

  • fantastic game

    GM Brisbane

  • Hull nearly snatched it back!

  • there was well over 100,000 in the stadium that day. people were slipping cash to the turnstile operators. it was chocka.

  • one of the best games of all time

  • Peter Sterling, Brett Kenny, Shawn Edwards, Knocker Norton, could these fantastic footballers adpat to the modern game...the answer is probaly not. Such a shame that the modern game, which is solely focused on the athletisim of the individual, cannot accomodate great players of the ilk of Sterling and co. The game is much faster these days but does that mean the product is superior, in my opinion the game was far more interesting and pleaseing on the eye during the pre super-League days.

  • gill would never have scored if kemble hadn't of been coming back in his first game after illness.

Wigan just hung on in the greatest final ever IMO

  • when i watched this game as a 9 year old it became one of the main reasons i fell in love with rugby league ..best game on earth played by true heroes

  • I remember seeing Ferguson at Headingley against Leeds and he was held stood upright with three Leeds players hold of him. He just kept pumping his legs and one by one they dropped off him. He was like an Ox with the speed of a cheetah. Brilliant.
